Which Motorcycle Licence Do You Need?
Light Motorcycle
Up to 125cc · Age 17+
Scooters and small motorcycles. Most common first licence in Mauritius.
Medium Motorcycle
Up to 35kW · Age 18+
Mid-range motorcycles. Requires A1 or 2 years riding experience.
Full Motorcycle
Unrestricted · Age 21+ or 24+
All motorcycles. Full access after progressive licensing or direct access at 24.

Safety Gear
What to Wear Before You Ride
Helmet
RequiredFull-face or open-face. ECE 22.06 certified recommended.
Gloves
RequiredProtects hands in a fall. CE Level 1 minimum.
Jacket
CE-rated armour at shoulders, elbows, and back.
Boots
Ankle protection. Dedicated motorcycle boots preferred.
Hi-vis vest
Strongly recommended for Mauritius roads — improves visibility.
Trousers
CE-rated knee and hip armour. Jeans offer minimal protection.
