How to get a learner’s licence in Mauritius

Apply for a provisional learner’s licence before learning to drive a motorcar, motorcycle or autocycle. The official lists include a birth certificate, National Identity Card or student pass where applicable, and civil-status or immigration documents where relevant. The Traffic Branch page also lists proof of address and passport photographs for the online process.

Because the document list can depend on the applicant’s status, use this as a preparation checklist rather than a final instruction. Confirm the live requirements before travelling to the Licensing Office.

The official helpdesk says an applicant under 18 should attend with a responsible party and that person’s National Identity Card. It also notes that applicants over 60 should produce a medical certificate confirming fitness to drive.
