Know the official categories
The Traffic Branch describes Type AM for autocycles, Type A1 for smaller motorcycles or electric bikes, Type A2 for the next capacity or power band, and Type A for larger motorcycles or electric bikes. Exact engine and power thresholds are set out on the official Traffic Branch page.
A learner may apply for A2 after holding A1, and for A after holding A1 and A2. Confirm the category that applies to your intended vehicle before starting lessons.
What the motorcycle practical test includes
After passing the audio-visual test, motorcycle and autocycle applicants are tested on off-road manoeuvres, an eyesight test, vehicle safety checks and an on-road practical driving test.
