Why a single number would be misleading
A learner’s timeline depends on application completion, their own preparation, availability of test appointments, and practical readiness. We do not repeat informal “three to six month” estimates as fact because the official sources reviewed do not give a universal practical-test waiting-time promise.
The Government Online Centre says the Traffic Branch schedules a driving-test appointment subject to availability and informs the applicant by email after application. Treat your official email as the definitive appointment record.
Plan the stages you can control
You can reduce uncertainty by preparing your documents before the learner-licence appointment, practising theory consistently, and choosing a driving-school plan that gives you clear feedback on practical readiness.
Do not book a practical test based only on pressure from friends or a social-media estimate. Ask your instructor what manoeuvres and road situations you can perform safely and consistently.
If you need to change an appointment
The Traffic Branch says an online postponement request should be submitted at least 48 hours before the appointment, with the learner licence, National Identity Card and appointment receipt. Check the current process before relying on this timing.
